2009 IRA Contribution Limit

The 2009 IRA contribution limit is $5,000. The IRS was expected to add an inflation adjusted amount of $500 to the 2008 IRA contribution limit of $5,000 for an expected maximum 2009 IRA contribution limit of $5,500 however the IRS decided to keep the 2009 ira contribution limit the same as it was in 2008. The IRS published the definitive 2009 IRA maximum contribution limits in the fourth quarter of 2008.

The 2009 IRA contribution deadline is April 15, 2010. This means that you can open an IRA account and make a 2009 IRA contribution up until the time you file your 2009 tax return. In addition, if you are 50 years or older, you are eligible to make a 2009 IRA catch up contribution.
